Neck Cracking

Question
About 5 weeks ago my neck started cracking continuously when I turn it to the right. I feel the cracking in the bone about an inch under the right ear. There are about four separate snaps when I turn it completely to the right. I am 40 years old and I do have TMJ and see a chiropractor every month.

About three weeks ago I was throwing a football(distance throwing contest) and felt a pull in my upper right collar bone area; it has been sore for the last week. (the collar bone area near the neck) Is there anything I can do to help treat the area myself( Do I use hot or cold packs?) Is there any excercise I can do to help the constant neck cracking? Thank you

Answer
John,
We do not ever recommend any treatment of any kind, let alone attempting to treat yourself.  We are only interested in correcting the cause of the problem and not treating the effects of the problem.  If you are regularly seeing a chiropractor but are yet getting unstable and are having trouble, then it is time to get a new chiropractor.
Results are what you are after, and if you give your healthcare practitioner some time and do not feel that you are getting anywhere or do not believe in what is being done then you should make a change.
If you would like a referral from me to a qualified doctor that can help you, then send me your town and state.
The only way to create stability in your cervical spine is to have the subluxation corrected in a specific manner and then leave it alone until it has returned.  An Upper Cervical Specific Doctor of Chiropractic will be able to do all that as well as educate you along the way.
Yours in Best Health,
Dr Rob Arnone
