Question
Hi!

Can you recommend any weight-bearing or other exercises for osteoporosis?

Thanks!

Answer
Sharon,
I recommend a program of full-body exercises utilizing free weights to help strengthen the framework. HOWEVER, I NEVER put anyone on any type of exercise other than swimming or pool-work until the frame is re-aligned properly.
What I am saying is that you need to get an evaluation looking specifically into your posture and nervous system function as well as your structural alignment of your spine.  There is a high chance that your osteoporosis may be the result of not only pounding on misaligned joints but also disrupted communication over the nerves which result in abnormal function.  In this particular case the effects may be that the bones are not being replaced properly and in an incomplete fashion.  When this occurs over time, it gets tagged with the diagnosis called "Osteoporosis" and then most people go through the typical medical route of taking some sort of drugs for it to try and reverse the effects.  Some people in the milk industry try to say that drinking milk builds strong bones, and that is simply not true it may even be a contributor to osteoporosis in some cases.
If indeed the cause is confirmed to be a structural problem from the start, then the only way to correct it would be to address the cause.  The problem is that most doctors don't know what causes osteoporosis any more than they know what causes cancer, or diabetes, or the common cold.
They usually fall back on genetics, it was hereditary or in your genes and they try different things to alter it.
I am proposing to you a natural law dealing with cause and effect, and the only way to know if you are falling right into that natural law as nearly all of our patients have is to get an evaluation.
Am I making any sense to you at all?
