QuestionHi
My 9 yr old son had been suffering from back and neck pain for a few yrs now. After having ct and MRI scans he was diagnosed with a spinal hemangioma, his consultant has told us this can not cause pain and has sent my son for phsyio . This has left me a little confused and worried as he also told us he didn't know a lot about internal hemangiomas as this is rare . My son still has a lot of pain in the thoracic region , which is where the tumour is , I asked for a bit more information on this condition , but got no answers , I don't even know how large it is or if it is jst on his spine or around his spine , can this be serious or is it common , please inform me about this condition as all I can find is skin hemangiomas . Even a little advice please , I am really worried.
Thankyou for your time in reading this.
Thankyou miss m speed.
AnswerHi Michelle,
I just received your question today.
I'm sorry to hear of your son's suffering. I cannot tell by your information if his pain has anything to do with his spinal hemangioma. The literature suggests that hemangiomas are responsible for pain in less than 1 percent of their occurrences yet they can be found in approximately 10 percent of the population. This doesn't
mean that your son's pain is or is not from the hemangioma.

I strongly suggest that you have your son visit an orthopedic specialist to give your son a second opinion.
My heart goes out to you and your son, and I wish I could tell you more at this point.
Best wishes to you and your child,
