QuestionWHAT ANTIBIOTIC WILL KILL THE BACTERIA SERRATIA?
AnswerHi Lee,
Thanks so much for your question.
I'm sorry but I can't tell you of a specific anti-biotic that will kill serratia.
It would depend on the person and the strength of the infection to find out what anti-biotics the bacteria would be sensitive to. A doctor will need a urine culture to determine this. In other words, what may work for my infection may not work for someone else.
However, Drinking cranberry juice and/or eating dried cranberries regularly can help prevent urinary tract infections. The question has been what ingredient in the juice performs this job? The secret is concentrated tannins in the juice also known as proanthocyanidins.
Scientists from Rutgers University conducted experiments to understand what, exactly, in cranberry juice does this. The study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
The test tube studies discovered the concentrated tannins from cranberry juice prevents bacteria from attaching itself to the cells that line the urinary tract.
Blueberries were also found to contain these tannins.
I hope this helps and if you have any more questions, please feel free to ask me anytime.
Thanks again,
John McKinzie
