Questioni ask this as a serious question. can a quadrapeligic(sorry if i spelt it wrong)get an erection/have sex/produce sperm/have kids. thank you for your time in reading this and for your much awaited response. thanks again.
AnswerHi Tommy,
Thanks so much for your questions.
Yes, yes, yes and yes. Seriously, these questions are very common among those who have had a spinal cord injury and the people involved with a person that has suffered an SCI.
A male with an SCI can achieve an erection but most have a problem maintaining one without help.
Sex is possible although, because of the lack of sensation due to the SCI, pleasure is more mental than physical. Some SCIs find the mental aspects to be more satisfying.
Now, as far as having children, it is possible but, chances are, there may be the need for fertility drugs or artificial insemination. The reason is that most males will often have a dramatic drop in their sperm count. The reasons vary from low body temperatures over a period of time, medication or radiation from X-rays to name just a few. Some also experience impotence and sterility.
I hope this has been some help and if you have any more questions, please feel free to ask me anytime.
Thanks again,
John McKinzie
