Question -
what are the exersises and stretches for lumbar pain and inflamation? history-45 yr old elite gymnast and skateboarder (concrete bowls), 20 yr marathoner Iwas told to stop or i would be in a wheel chair by 60.I can do all my training still and work. I have pain upon rising in morning and now during some tumbling skills and skateboard landings-dull aiching pain all day when standing and sitting . pain hurts first half mile of all running then no pain. At age 16 i had a compessed lumbar disc L4 -I think.cortisone,heat message 4-day bed rest was successful treatment. I don't want to stop running. non insurable athelete and gym owner TODSKI- THANKS

Thanks so much for your question.

I won't go against your doctor's recommendation to stop and suggest some exercises. There was a reason you were told to stop and now you are feeling the affects.

The spine is not very forgiving and further abuse or injury could land you in a wheelchair sooner than later. Just ask professional athletes who continued on regardless of what their doctor told them. They are either in W/Cs and/or need walkers and canes to get around. Many, also, need painkillers just to get out of bed.because of severe back pain.

My doctor wanted me to look up the McKinzie therapy for the lower back so I could start working on some of these.  Is there a book I could purchase or a website I can go to for these exercises?
