Question
Mr. McKinzie,
I am 25 years old, and I have 3 herniated disks. I have been already twice in the hospital, but there is no need of a surgery at this point. Now I have light pain in my back, and I am working at the office most of the time. Can you advise me a couple of exercises I could do in my office.

Answer
Hi Serendipity,
Thanks so much for your question.

I am not a doctor so it would be wrong for me to suggest any specific exercise for you. Also, not being familiar with your problem and what the level of disc herniation is, I wouldn't know what type of exercises would be best for you.

That being said, here is some websites that discuss various treatments for herniated discs.

Even though you mentioned that surgery is not needed, it sounds like that may be an future option to be considered. Now, I'm not trying to scare you. On the contrary, I'm actually trying to relieve you, should the subject come up.

There is a minimally invasive surgical  procedure called indoscopic disectomy. In most cases, the doctor uses a local anestesia to make a couple of small incisions. He will then use a scope to repair the damage.

I only mentioned this so you would be prepared to discuss this with your doctor if he/she brings up the subject of surgery. You can also find more info about this on those websites I included.

Remember, always discuss any treatments, such as exercises, with your doctor before doing them to prevent further damage. Your doctor is more familiar with your case and would be able to suggest what would be most beneficial for your recovery.

I hope this helps and if you have any more questions, please feel free to ask me anytime.

Thanks again,
John McKinzie
