QuestionA year ago my son went down on the football field and had no feeling in his lower body but his hands were on fire. He was flown to Cooks in fort worth. We had surgery in January to fuse his neck. Now he has no pain at all. But when we went for his check up they said he has no fluid in part of his neck and when he tilts his head the slightest bit forward it pinches his spinal cord. Were looking at putting a rod in his neck and I'm scared he's only 16. Could I have done anything different? And how serous is this surgery?
AnswerDear Brenda, I am writing you because I want you to know that I understand why your questioning whether you could have done something different, but please don't do that to yourself. My mother still makes comments to me 37+ years later about the night of my accident/injury on if she would have told me I couldn't go out I would still be walking. But like I tell her, had it not been that night it would have happened a different night, I believe it was meant to happen. That for some reason this was what God had planned for me. But enough of that.
As far as how serious the surgery is, I am sorry to say I am not knowledgeable about your sons situation. But I do know that I would want a second opinion from someone who has vast experience in that area.
And know I will keep good thoughts for your son that his surgery allows him to lead a normal and healthy life.
Sincerely,
Ken
