QuestionMy brother was involved in a diving accident on April 28,2009. He cracked his C6 & suffered a burst fracture of the C7 causing fragments to compress against the spine. The surgeon was able to remove the fragments from the spine. A titanium plate was put into the C7 and he left the C6 to heal on its own.The doctor said the odds were bad that my brother would ever have movement below the chest including arms & hands. My brother has feeling and some movement in his arms and hands and fingers except the pinky,no feeling or movement below his chest. Is there a possibility he will regain his senses and movement?
AnswerHi Teisha, First off let me tell you how sorry I am to hear about your brothers injury. And secondly anything is possible, and sounds like your brother has already surpassed what his doctor was expecting. But from all the different injuries I've seen it is also possible for your brother to stay at his current level of return. The thing that gives me hope for more return is how quickly he has gotten the return he currently has. It took me five years to get back everything I have. So keep the faith and encourage your brother to work at his physical therapies. I will also keep good thoughts for your brother's recovery. Sincerely, Ken
