Question
Hi, I'm an OT student who will have a patient with a T4 SCI.  I have no idea what to do.  My books only explain what their level of function is, but not ideas as to what to do.  Have you every had OT? and if you did, what helped you the most.  But if you haven't, what self care techniques and ideas helped?

Thank you very much.

Answer
Hi Lisa,  T4 can result in paralysis and loss of sensation from the waist down. Giving the person training on how they will still be able to cook, of course with modifications. Letting them experience removing things from cupboards, drawers and the refrigerator. Taking them shopping to let them get a feel for how it is different in a wheelchair. Having them work with a computer to experience the change in their seating position.

I hope this helps you.

Sincerely, Ken
