Question
Hello there, about 4 years ago I had cervical arthoplasty on my neck, this included C4/C5 C5/C6 C6/C7. Now I have three artificial discs to replace the ones that were removed. Over the last 8 months I have had lots of pain again and had a CT Myelogram. I was told that there is a mild detriation of C3. I wonder if this means I am getting worse, can this problem spread. I am certainly having much more problem that before as regards being able to move around and do things. I hardly go out because of it. I am virtually incapable of doing much now, including walking properly. I came across this site by trying to find out about the cervical spine. Maybe you could help me work out what is happening to my spine. It also worries me because this wasnt bought on by a spine injury either. It seem to be deiteriation. The surgeon said it is rare in my age to have such a problem. I am 45. What are your thoughts.

Answer
Hi Jax,

I am sorry to hear of your cervical spine problems. I think there can be many causes of the deterioration of the spinal vertebra. But I think I found one possible reason for your situation. As far as what may occur as a result of a C3 level deterioration, it all depends on what nerve damage is done. I do know that if severe damage is done it can result in quadriplegia. And the impairment of bodily function and sensation/paralysis from the shoulders down. I hope that isn't the case with you. I have been a C4-C5 Quadriplegic since 1973, so I am living with your worst case scenario. I hope the website below can help you, if not just let me know and I'll do some more digging.  Sincerely, Ken
