Question
Mr. Gold:
I started a walking program on or about August 1walking 2 + miles per day.. .I reached down on my left knee and there was a lump... My problem is a swollen area (lump)on the lower half of my left knee cap.  The lump is semi firm when pressed.. but no pain involved..I have been taking 2 Advils 3 times daily (at 4 hr, intervals.. not at night).
I will be 68 yrs. old in mid September.
I am planning on seeing my HMO General physician within 3 weeks and hope he refers me to an orthopedic physician.

Treatment options..
1.  Do nothing keep up with Advils?
2. Have the physician lance the area drain fluid?
3. Other treatment you might suggest_________

Thanks,

John

Answer
John:

First step:  Get your physician's assessment.

If he cannot arrive at a diagnosis or diagnoses the problem as muscular, contact me again and I will make a recommendation for retraining the involved muscles.

If you wish a consultation by telephone with me, go to www.somatics.com/page7.htm#consultation and follow the instructions.

Be well.
