Question
Tracy, My boyfriend has been down for over 24 hours and cannot move, He twisted the wrong way and fell to the ground and laid there for 3 hours before I could get him in bed. He's describing it as contractions(which he would have NO CLUE) ha ha joking! so i'm assuming they could be muscle spasms the doctor has prescribed flexeril about 5 weeks ago when this happened but this time he hurts so bad to move from side to side or anything, He is also telling me he thinks it may be a pinched nerve so besides the muscle relaxers and Ibuprofen should I be putting ice or heat therapy to give him some relief. Should he just continue to stay off it for a couple days to see if it gets better or what? Please help me the best you can, I don't know what to do. Thank you so much for your time. Amy

Answer
Hi Amy,
Your boyfriend should probably see a doctor right away. One of the most important things about treating a back injury is breaking the pain cycle. The more pain there is, the more the muscles will tighten up in response to it and the longer muscles are tightened up, the more they want to stay that way. The spasms and the 'pinched' feeling pain are both pain sensations caused by muscles so applying heat may help.
Especially since this is the second time this has happened, your boyfriend may need physical therapy to completely heal.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions or need additional information please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks
Tracy
