Pain and the weather

Question
Hi.

I'm 20/female.

When I was 12 I broke my leg. Ever since I have had problems with pain.

I'm just curious. People say "When the weather changes it hurts more"

and I was wondering if this true.

Because when it rains, my leg hurts more than normal.

Is it a coincidence? or does the weather really affect the pain?

Thanks
Kayla

Answer
Kayla,

As temperatures drop, muscles tighten up as the body's natural way of generating more heat.

Injuries cause muscles to tighten up in a reflexive response to pain, and this kind of tightness may persist indefinitely after injury, unless retrained.  Such tight muscles get fatiged and sore, accounting for long-term pain following injuries.

The combination would account for pain with weather changes.
