Question
i sprain my right ankle, during the healing of my ankle, i start having pain in my groin on the same side of the sprain ankle. i figured it came from me trying not to walk on my ankle. my ankle is well and my groin is still hurting i can hardly walk. i have taken all kind of pain pills and mussel relaxers and nothing seem to be helping.i have put cold pack and heating pads on it. it hurts way down in my my groins. plese tell me what i am doing wrong and what can i do right.  thaqnk you

Answer
Hi, Lula.

It's not that you are doing something wrong; it's that the ankle injury triggered a protective reflex of pulling your leg in.  The muscles are tight and sore.

You have to retrain your control of the muscles involved in walking; pills, hot and cold don't affect the protective reflex.

May I direct you to my brief article, Completing Your Recovery from an Injury, at somatics.com/page4b.htm, for more explanation.

To clear up the problem, you can have a few visits with a clinical somatic educator, who can take you through the process of retraining your muscles and movements.  Self-help programs are also available (somatics.com/page7.htm); if you would like advice on which program to use, write to me, again.
