Question
I began to have a little pain in my left forearm close to my wrist on Friday, April 10.  I noticed some swelling while working the following Sunday and could barely lift a small empty box.  Today, Wednesday, April 15, the pain is more intense and I felt a vibrating feeling on and off this afternoon.  I cannot make a fist, type, touch my fingers to my thumb, or anything simple without unbearable pain.  If I try to bend my hand backward at the wrist, there is a grinding sensation.  My husband felt it and said he has never felt anything like that before. I don't remember anything I have done that could have injured my arm.  Do you have any suggestions?  Thank you for your time!

Answer
Hi Tana,

Since there was no trauma that you can recall, then perhaps your condition may be related to repetitive movements such as using a computer or lifting or holding objects over a prolong period of time in your life.

The swelling indicates an irritation at the wrist causing friction which affects the tendons as they travel along.  The grinding may be due to the tendon clicking over the bony joint at the wrist.  This grinding will cause pain and swelling since that is where friction is at.

My suggestion is to visit either  a chiropractic or acupuncture office.   I would recommend more of chiropractic in this instance.  An examination will be done in order to have a precise diagnosis.

Good luck and I hope I was helpful.
