Question
QUESTION:  I am 65yr man suffering from pain at night in the back of upper left thigh.pain comes around 2-3am and completely disappear at morning.pain is cramping in nature, not  radiating.i am diabiatic control by diet,HTN control by ACE inhabitor.I had operation anterior resection of rectum for pappilovilous adenoma with mild displasia.on X ray thigh-normal,resent colonoscopy-normal.     would you please give me advice?

ANSWER: Hello,

I wonder if you might be experiencing a Hiatal Hernia or GERD?  I would try putting 4-6" blocks under the two feet of your bed at the top f the bed (so the bed is higher at the head end than the foot end).

You can refer to the links below for more detailed information and perhaps discuss it with your family doctor.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION:  For Your Kind information, my pain is over back of left thigh.I have no epigastric or chest pain like GERD symptom.

Answer
Sorry about that, somehow I missed the word "thigh" and thought it was "night time pain".

Have you ruled out sciatica?  Gentle stretching for 10-15 minutes prior to bed should help lengthen and relax the muscle and help prevent sciatic discomfort.

My other worry is nerve pain due to your diabetes in which case you need to discuss this with your endocrinologist for follow-up.

Wishing you all my best,
Margot
