QuestionHi there,
I suffered a painful accident and was taken to hospital yesterday, where once everything was cleaned up I was given morphine... which I had never had before. I felt no difference in the pain to the affected area, and a muscle pull in an unrelated area was also just as painful. I didn't feel any other side effects either, as if I was given a placebo or something.
From what research I've been able to do, a small percentage of people are naturally immune to it. is this true? And does this mean codine won't work for me either? because I've never really been high and loopy from T3's either like some people say they get.
I've been given Percocet but havent taken any yet, as I've never taken them before either and I'm unsure if it will do anything as the impression I'm under is its mostly codine as well, or something similar. If its similar but not exact, could it work for me?
My mother said she has been given it and it didnt work either, so is there a possibility of it being genetic?
What drugs should I ask for instead for future reference? I was given Demerol a couple of years ago once and that really KO'ed me and did the trick. Is that generally considered stronger than Morphine? I don't want to come across as some sort of junkie looking to get high or anything. And finally, what pills should I ask for if Percocet doesn't work?
Let me know if you need any more information, I'd like to learn as much as possible because I'm so intrigued as to how a drug that i've heard so much about working wonders and being addictive had zero effect on me
AnswerHello Mike and thanks for writing,
You could be immune to Morphine and Codeine (which is very similar to Morphine chemically) if they do nothing for you, but Demerol does.
Personally I hate Demerol for many reasons and suggest you do try the Percocet ?it?not Morphine or Codeine, it抯 actually Oxycodone wh9ch is the best narcotic analgesic available for many reasons. If it works for you then you have a great narcotic which you can have in the future for moderate to sever pain and is available in many strengths and forms.
I hope this helped and I wish you all the best,
Margot
