Question
My husband has numbness in his upper left leg from knee to upper thigh area. It has been like this for almost a year. He wants to go see a doctor or specilist but does not know which kind. Can we get some advice on this? Thanks,

Hello, Jasmine,

Numbness usually indicates nerve impingement (pinch) of muscular origin.  Leg numbness indicates very tight back muscles coupled with tight hip flexors and psoas muscles.

The kind of specialist who can effectively address the problem is a clinical somatic educator (my field), who deals in brain-muscle training.  A very skilled Feldenkrais practitioner may also be effective.  Conventional manipulative and therapeutic approaches fail to retrain control over muscular tension but attempt to change it from without, and drugs are worthless.

For more information on the approach, see somatics.com/!index.htm.
