What is causing this flushing pain over arms, face and chest?

Question
Dear Lawrence, are you able to help... I get pain all over my arms, face and chest, usually on exertion. My face flushes easily with embarassment or exertion and this feels a bit like that, but really painful, sometimes just a brief flash; but sometimes if I am cycling or carrying something heavy it might feel like 100 of these flashes every minute, like I can feel my pulse hurting my skin and muscles. It used to be a very mild odd sensation, but over the past 2 years it has become really sore, and I'm starting to feel nauseous and fatigued when the pain is bad. It is worse on hot days. I have no idea what it is and just really want to know what might cause it - can you offer any explanation? Or even better eny suggestions to make it more manageable? (Avoiding exertion avoids the pain, but I am a slightly overweight (BMI 27) 35 year old woman, so avoiding exertion is not going to be good for my health)!

Dear Susan,

The first thing for which I would check is a state muscular contraction in the named regions.

Are you relaxed, there? or always tight?

The pattern sounds like Startle Reflex. Please read this article, for an explanation:

more on Startle Reflex in Thomas Hanna's book, Somatics | ReAwakening the Mind's Control of Movement, Flexibility and Health (available on-line through Amazon.com and other locations)

Without more information, that's the best I can do.

I do offer consultations by Skype/telephone.  Please click the following link:
