QuestionI had a partial colon resection December 2005 followed by chemotherapy which I just completed. However, I still have chronic diarrhea which at times causes me to be late for work. Does that qualify as a medical disability and warrant looking into a telecommuting assignment?
Do cats qualify as a service animal? (provides me with comfort when I'm not feeling well or wanting to get out of bed. Dx depression 20+ years.
AnswerHi Roxy,
I cannot absolutely say with legal authority, but I would say yes to your first question. What you need to do is acquaint yourself with the general concept of what counts as disability and what accommodations you can ask for. There is a terrific site that can walk you through all that at http://www.janweb.edu
On the cat.. I have that same desire.. what you need to do about that is find out what your state's requirements are. Some states will require certification and therefore will have guidelines. Just go to your state's website and search on "service animal certification". If you can't find anything, try giving a nearby disabilities advocacy organization a call to ask about state requirements.
If I can help you locate any of this, just ask.
