QuestionI have a problem with a handy cap permit discrimination, they won't make reasonable accomidations for where i work but they did at two other garages, i drive mass city transit in portland oregon, and i am in a union, and we have many greivences going for almost a year. But they have treated me very bad, and also asked me what is my disablility. Im not allowed to asked that to my passengers so why is it that my manager asked me? Anyways they refuse to help me out with parking because they don't think i have a problem. I have taken pictures since feb and march of this year, they won't help me out with parking but they let workers park in fire lanes for months, and so i called the fire marshall on them, they got numerous violation tickets, but still they let people park in the fire lane, they don't care, they have threatened to tow my car in january and march with my handycap permit, i have a law suit that im going to slam on them with like 300 pictures. What can you help me out with, and do you think i can get help for this problem?
Thanks pj
AnswerThe first thing I recommend is that you contact your EEO/Affirmative Action Officer for the city. Ask that individual who the ADA Coordinator is for the city. They are required to have one if they have 50 or more employees. File a complaint with both of those individuals. If they do not take the complaint then let me know.
[email protected] and I will see what I can do. It will be better to email be directly as I will need information that is best kept private from the public sector. What is your union doing to move this forward other than just filing grievances?
