QuestionI'm extremely frustrated. I have a learning disability which makes it extremely hard for me to understand instructions, and therefor I can be a very slow learner. In college I took courses in subjects that I was very knowledgeable about, however because of this problem I almost failed every one of them. Now I just lost my job AGAIN. My resume is horrible because I have never had a job for more than a few months before my bosses got too frustrated to keep me. One staffing agency chewed me out because they said no employer is ever going to take me seriously with a resume like that. How can I get around this so I can finally start a career I enjoy and be considered good at what I do?
AnswerIn most states there is a vocational placement service called VESID. This service deals with testing, training, and retraining of vocational job skills. It sounds like there is a gap in what you want to do versus what you are able to do. You would benefit from a service that can assess your current skills. As far as your resume, the staffing agency is right.....kind of. If you put every job that you did not succeed at on the resume then you are not presenting a good picture to future employers. So if you can get training in a job you can handle RIGHT NOW, then you can rebuild your resume. Best of luck to you. If I can be of any further service please do not hesitate to contact me.
