QuestionHi. i'm 21 and my memory is just no good. I failed tests all the time even though I studied and I forget what my mom tells me. I am terrible and learning something. My math is really bad. I used to work at a cafe and when I learned to make a drink, i'd forget it. I have taken B12 complex and folic acid and they don't help. I need something strong. I am going back to college next September and I want to be sure my memory is really good. What do you recommend?
AnswerHi Shari and thanks for writing,
I think you need more than Vitamins ad would suggest you try going to a Memory Specialist or taking a memory-enhancing program.
If you want a list of supplements known to help brain function and memory, here is a list from http://www.herbal-supplements-guide.com/memory-vitamins.html
Memory Vitamins & Essential Brain Nutrients
Vitamin B6 - one of the most important B Vitamins, B6 supports and maintains numerous bodily functions. It has been shown to be beneficial in memory retention as well as maintaining brain health.
Folic Acid - another important B Vitamin, folic acid, or Vitamin B9, aids in the production of red blood cells and can help improve sense of well-being and mental clarity.
Choline - an essential nutrient to form acetylcholine, an important brain neurotransmitter that can prevent memory loss and increase brain function.
Gingko Biloba - one of the most popular memory nutrients, ginkgo biloba has been shown to improve blood circulation in the brain and can improve memory and alertness.
Hawthorn - with strong OPC antioxidants, hawthorn cleans out brain toxins and strengthens blood vessels and tissues. Hawthorn facilitates oxygen and nutrient transport to the brain.
Gotu Kola - an herbal extract native to Asia and Europe, gotu kola also improves brain circulation, as well as mental performance and retention.
Bacopin - can improve intellectual capacity, concentration and memory, as well as shorten learning time.
Rosemary - popular in culinary dishes, rosemary can improve brain function and enhance memory and concentration.
Schisandra - can improve memory as well as sense of well-being and mental awareness.
DMAE - found in high concentrations in fish, and naturally produced in the brain, DMAE is thought to help produce acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter responsible for proper brain activity and function.
I hope this helps,
All my best,
Margot
