Question
I am doing a project in school. My group of four and I have to figure out a way to make it possible for someone who is blind to copy notes off of the blackboard. We came up with an idea that we call Braille-o-Glasses. They are glasses with a camera that read, translate into letters and such, and wirelessly connect to a braille pad inserted into the desk. The braille pad raises exactly where the student needs to feel it. We tried an experiment being told what to write and it worked. However, we need an expert's opinion. Do you think this is a good idea? How do you think it can be improved? Thank you for your time, Mr. Craig.

Answer
I like the concept. Yet what happens if the teacher or a student walks in front of the camera? What is the power source for the glasses? Is there a backup source? With that said what about having the visually impaired student use a braille writer and have the teacher or another student read the board? Now if the classroom was equipped with a SmartBoard that is run by a computer you may be able to run a tap in source. Your solution should be based on the actual environment. You then base your solution based on the pros and cons of that environment.

Hope this helps
