QuestionHi Barbara,
I was diagnosed with non-severe EDS (joint hypermobility and chronic pain from physical trauma) about 10 years ago (I still have daily pain from a car accident from back then). Since then I've been having gastro-intestinal problems (ulcer related to hiatus hernia) and recently cardio problems (irregular heart beat). I'm looking into the heart issues right away, but I'm thinking it might be worth speaking with someone who can put everything together. Can you recommend any local resources for British Columbia? Its hard to find anything online that is locally-oriented and I've asked around in the medical community I have access to (my family doctor and some physicial friends) and no one has been able to help. EDS Canada's website doesn't seem to be working.
Also, I regularly sublux my elbows, mostly the right. Can you send me a link for EDS elbow braces? I need something that keeps my arm slightly bent so it won't hyper-extend, especially when I'm doing something that might be risky (swimming is the worst, but I've done it gardening and even pulling on rain boots!)
Thank you so much,
Michelle
AnswerHi Michelle,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I have emailed a friend with EDS in Canada who may be able to help with referrals. I was hoping to hear back by now. I will follow up with you once I have some information. You might also want to visit the Canadian Ehlers-Danlos Association on Yahoogroups. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/ceda/
For braces, it depends on the severity of the hypermobility and sublux problems you have. I recommend working with a physical therapist or orthotist for something custom-made if you have a severe issue. For milder elbow problems, check http://www.lp-support.com or http://www.oppomedical.com. I used to work for LP/Oppo and they are good quality. The Oppo products are more medical and LP is more sports style.
