Question
I have a son turning 21 next summer and planning transition. I believe residential living will enhance his quality of life.
He is total care, wheelchair bound and tube fed. He also has seizures.i have been told that there are no vacancy at local homes ( southern new Hampshire)
Years back we added an addition for him ,includes lifts, own bathroom with whirlpool tub, garage with HC van, therapy room, screened in porch and farmers porch.
We are thinking of the possibility of turning this home into a group home. What are the possibilities of this happening . How do you find a group or company that may be interested in renting or buying the property?

Answer
Hi Mary,

This sounds like a great opportunity. The challenge of turning this into a group home is trying to find others folks to live there who:

a. have the proper funding to support the arrangement
b. are compatible with your son

My suggestion would be to work with you local Area Agency to explore this further. They can put out a statewide notice to see if there are other folks who could benefit from such an arrangement. If you can find two, then securing the agency should be easy (also can be done through the Area Agency).

Please let me know if I can be of any assistance through the process.

Jon
