Question
can glucoma be completely cured?

Answer
Hi Prashanth,

Sorry it's taken me a while to respond to your question; I needed time to have  a good think about it.

Anyway, I understand that you are asking whether Glaucoma can be completely cured. It's a difficult thing to tell you, but as far as I am aware it cannot be completely cured. I am sorry if that is a difficult thing for you to hear.

Sadly, any damage caused to a person's vision by Glaucoma cannot be repaired - they will never have back the level of vision that they had BEFORE the onset of the disease, Glaucoma. Vision loss caused by Glaucoma is irreversible.

The goal, instead, is to try to diagnose and treat the disease as quickly as possible - before sever vision loss occurs. Glaucoma CAN be treated. People can be treated with eye drops, medication (tablets), laser surgery, other forms of surgery - or a combination of these methods. Treatments can slow deterioration in vision, so that the person with Glaucoma does not have to experience devastating loss of sight. Instead, no meaningful, or significant loss occurs during the person's lifetime.

Any person who is treated for Glaucoma will need to be regularly monitored. Treatments may have side-effects; or may not work for you as an individual; so it is always important to discuss any treatment and effects with your doctor. You need to be able to find the most suitable treatment for you.

I do hope that this answer may be of some help to you.
