Question
i fell on and badly cut my right knee about a year and a half and go since then i have bad pains and stiffness in it after siting or bending it for short periods. Is there any serious damage to my knee?

Answer
Hello Sarah,

Sorry to hear about the knee joint pain. From your brief description it sounds like the tissue around your knee joint tightened up after your injury, most likely it's just your body's attempt to protect the area, but now that tissue needs to be released for your knee to function properly again.

If you take a moment to think about all the muscles in your body like the rigging (ropes) on a big old-fashioned sailboat, you can begin to understand how the tension in all the rigging (muscles) must be properly balanced for everything to work properly.  If the muscles in your thighs (and others) are too tight then it is difficult for the knee joint to work because it doesn't have the space and freedom it's needs to do so.

I talk about all this in greater detail on my completely free website,
Do-It-Yourself-Joint-Pain-Relief,
http://www.do-it-yourself-joint-pain-relief.com/
but basically, you need to release the tight tissue that is keeping your knee from functioning properly when you bend, or resting comfortably when you sit.

All my pages have free follow-along videos that show you how to fix yourself,
so I'm going to recommend you go to my main, Knee Joint Pain Relief page,
http://www.do-it-yourself-joint-pain-relief.com/knee-joint-pain-relief.html
and follow along with the videos.
My newer page, Exercises for Chondromalcia Patella Knee Pain,
http://www.do-it-yourself-joint-pain-relief.com/exercises-for-chondromalacia-pat
might be worth a look as well.

There is a lot of overlap on these two pages, so it's not as much work as you might think.

I do think you can probably fix yourself!

All the best,

Gary Crowley
