QuestionI am a 25 year old female and i have been a sufferer of migraines for the last 3 years. I have tried so many different methods to help with them and now i am considering a chiropractor.Do you think they will be able to help me? I have a feeling that the migraines stem from somewhere at the base of my neck because i get relief if i massage on either side of the neck when i have a migraine. I hope you are able to help me.. thanks you so much...
AnswerI strongly suggest that you see a chiropractor! I have seen many patients with migraines get major relief from chiropractic care, and your description of the feeling in your neck indicates that it's very likely chiropractic would help.
Chiropractic often (not always) helps migraine headaches. There are different causes of migraines, including dietary imbalance and allergies, but nerve irritation in the upper neck caused by restricted movement of spinal joints is often a significant factor. Research has shown that
chiropractic can help migraines, even in someone who has been suffering for many years.
Initial treatment may require visits up to 2 or 3 times weekly for the first month. You should feel definite improvement within the first 8 to 10 visits. If you do, further treatment at reduced frequency will likely
be needed for lasting results. And hopefully the chiropractor will also discuss nutrition and posture--two big factors which you can work on.
