QuestionI have a concern about the safety of cervical manipultion. I have heard that there have been some deaths reported as a result of cervical manipulation which resulted in a tear in an artery. I am going to a chiropractor that I feel is very conservative, but I am still reluctant to have my neck manipulated. I have a horror of something going wrong.
Answera dose of reality- it is true that rarely injuries, even deaths have occurred from MANIPULATION. the stats are about one in two million office visits for injury, one in four million for death. understand these stats include some non-chiropractors doing the manipulating. now that we've put things in a little bit of perspective, first, if you're not getting you're upper neck SPECIFICALLY ADJUSTED (I DIDN'T SAY MANIPULATED- THERE'S A BIG DIFFERENCE) don't expect resolution of your problems. it is, in fact, the only place that needs adjustment. all else is just effect. upper neck misalignment is the cause of nerve interference, the correction of which is the sole purpose of chiropractic. i recommend you seek out an HIO METHOD chiropractor. i would accept no substitutes.
