QuestionMy son was performing a move in wrestling class just turned his head to the left felt and heard a pop and a few seconds later the pain began. A lump or muscle/tendon (dont know) protruded from the base of his scull on the left side down the back (lat muscle).this occured 6pm friday evening and still has the lump on the neck area. today is sunday. what can we do for him. he cannot straighten his head. he can move the rest of his body just fine. he has an important tournement in 6 days. how can chiropractic manipulation help or is there anything we can do that we havenot done to return him to normal. we iced his neck and shoulder/back every 20min for 1 1/2 days. gave tylenol and spasm meds. the first night.looking forward to hearing from you. thanks

So far you have done everything right. I have been a treating chiropractor for a University athletic dept for 8 years and dealt with this type of problem many times.
I recommend an evaluation with a chiropractor to determine:
1-the extent of injury
2-the type of treatment needed to resolve it
3-to get it fixed so he can compete.
It sounds as if he needs the neck manipulated and this would take care of it, but due to the nature of the injury a thorough evaluation is in order. Do that today and with some luck, he will compete.
