AnswerDr. Shawd--
I'm so glad to hear that you'd like to integrate chiropractic into your patients' lives! There are over 200 different techniques, and every chiropractor uses some unique combination based on several factors--what their chiropractor did, what they learned while going through school, and what they find that their patients need. My suggestion would be to contact the local chiropractors in your community, find out what they do, and get adjusted by them. Pick a doc that you feel comfortable referring your patients to...just like you prefer a certain hospital, or EENT, or orthopod, etc....you'll meet a D.C. that you can refer to, and most likely he/she will reciprocate!
Some of the most common techniques that most chiropractors use include Diversified, Gonstead, Activator, and Thompson. Diversified and Gonstead will be described by patients as hands-on and they'll feel or hear a 'pop'. Activator uses a small clicking device to move the vertebra, and Thompson uses a table that drops to facilitate the adjustment. Again, talk to the D.C.'s and I'm sure they'll be happy to describe and demonstrate what they do...
I hope this helps! You can also contact me at
