Question -
I have been receiving chiropratic treatment for 18 months and have been very pleased with the results. Iam 25yrs old and have suffered with lower back pain for 7 yrs. I used to have to take pain killers like diazepam on a daily basis but have not had to take any for about a year since starting the treatment.  i have recently had a fall and i am in tremendous pain, my chiropractor says i could have done 1 of 3 things: bowshelitis, ligament problems or a fracture, he says a x-ray is not neccessary and that i should be fine in about 6 weeks. My husband is convinced that i should go to hospital and get a second opinion as i can barely walk sit or stand without taking diazepam and kopake. are you able to reccomend that i seek a second opinion or go to the hospital?

Hello Hellen,

What are you current symptoms: pain, location, radiation, numbness, tingling, etc.

Let me know,

Dr. Brendon O'Brien D.C.

Hi

My symptoms are lower back pain towards hip/buttock, continuous throbbing pain which intensifies when standing up from either sitting or laying. Once at standing position i am able to stand upright but have lots of pain in the right lower back/ hip area espeically when walking. Also painful and sensitive to touch on the right hand side of the hip.  This is now aggrevating my original problems which all occur in my left hand side as i am now starting with pins and needles/numbness in my left leg when sat which i beleive is a nerve problem. I have always got a throbbing sensation in my right hip area whether standing sitting or laying unless taking painkillers. No pain running down legs.  When i fell i purposely put all pressure/weight on my left hand side as i did not want to aggrevate my existing injuries on my left hand side.

Thank you

Answer
Hello Hellen,

With the current symptoms you may want to have a MRI of the lumbar spine just to make sure there is no disc bulging/protrusions or nerve impingement.  If 2-3 weeks of treatment does not improve your condition or becomes worse a MRI is recommended.

Have a great day,

Dr. Brendon O'Brien D.C.
