QuestionI'm a sophomore at Colorado State University. I'm trying to
figure out exactly what I want to do for my career. I must admit,
chiropracting seems like a good option for me. I was originally
going towards being a PT, but it didn't work as well as I had
hoped. Could you give me a little more info on what a
chiropractor does, is there anything I need to know if I'd like to
become one? Let me know if you can help me out! Thank you!
AnswerCharissa,
Thanks for the question. I hope I can help.
I have been in practice for 14 years now. I do enjoy what I do and have had the opportunity to help many people improve their health. A chiropractor does many things, but the main focus I guess would be spinal manipulation. We use spinal manipulation to correct spinal problems that lead to neck and back pain, headaches, disc problems and a myriad of conditions. I am also an acupuncturist and utilize acupuncture for many situations. I also deal heavily with nutrition and work in the area of hormonal imbalances to help correct various conditions.
I suggest that you look very deeply into chiropractic and the available schools prior to making choices. You have to have a passion and desire to do what you want to do and enjoy for the rest of your life. My wife is a registered nurse and never did enjoy the hospital and floor work side of nursing. So my suggestion is to make sure that you want to do something prior to committing 4 years of chiropractic college after you finish your bachelor's requirements.
I attended Texas Chiropractic College. There are many schools in California and across the country, but none in Colorado to my knowledge. Chiropractic colleges are expensive as well. The class load is heavy and intense, but it can be worth it.
I recommend doing a search on chiropractic schools and looking at each one individually. Call them and request more information and do your homework.
If you have any questions after you do your homework on it, then let me know.
God Bless,
Dr. Boss
