QuestionDear Dr. Boss,
My 9 year old daughter has recently been diagnosed with chronic fluid in her ears. Our ENT specialist has tried several prescriptions to clear it but it returns after a few days or weeks. He has now recommended placing tubes in her ears, but I'd like to try other, non-surgical, options first. I've taken her off dairy to see if it is possibly due to allergies. A friend recommended seeing a chiropractor, do you think chiropractic could do anything for this ear problem? I'd appreciate any information you could provide.
Thank you!
Jen Tomas
AnswerJen,
Thanks for the question and I am sorry to hear about your daughter and her ears. I am not going to tell you that chiropractic cures ear infections. What I will tell you is my personal practice experience with patients such as your daughter. I have seen many of them and have many young patients right now who used to have similar issues.
I do recommend taking her off of high allergen foods such as dairy, corn (all corn products: chips, cereals, etc.), wheat, peanuts and peanut butter. Those are the classic ones.
I will also perform chiropractic manipulation on the patients cervical spine and have them take a few supplements. Vitamin C, L-cysteine (anti-mucolytic), and quercetine (anti-inflammatory). The L-cysteine works to help fight against fluid and mucus production. The quercetine works great for inflammation of the sinuses and mucus membranes.
I get great results with my treatment protocol and have avoided many patients from having PE tubes placed in the ears via surgery.
I hope this helps and good luck with your daughter.
God Bless,
Dr. Boss
