QuestionHave you ever heard of sudden hearing loss occuring the morning after a neck adjustment. This has happened to me, my Chiropractor says she has never heard of such a thing. My ENT also has never heard of it. However he said it is possible that plack was disturbed and may have caused it. I would appreciate any information you might have. I am currently scheduled for a MRI and being treated with Valtrex and Prednisone. Thank you. Jean Ball
AnswerJean, You need to follow up with the MRI. You also should follow-through with your ENT physician and consider neurologic consultation if your symptoms do not resolve. It is very odd that your symptoms occured the morning after the neck adjustment as opposed to immediately. There have been anecdotal accounts of changes in hearing, often improved, but I've never seen any reports of hearing loss the day following neck manipulation. Good luck with this.
Jean, lastly, sudden hearing loss is noted in the medical literature. Your ENT and neurologist should be monitoring you on this. I would advise avoiding any neck joint manipulation until you are sure that you have no carotid or vertebral artery defects and that there are no notable cerebrovascular issues. Beyond this advice, it is out of my field of expertise. Again, good luck with this.
