QuestionI injured my hip in a car accident when I was 17 (I'm just about to turn 49). I fractured it and the hip came out of the socket. I've recently started horseback riding lessons and my hip has been hurting to the point where i have to limp for a few days. I don't want to give up my dream of riding/owning a horse. Is it detrimental to me if I keep it up? I know that I haven't stretched my legs that was for a long time and I'm hoping with continued horseback riding it will get better.
AnswerYou have left out a lot of history on this question. Just how bad was the residual damage to your hip? What does it look like now? This is one of the things that the advice, " check with your doctor," was designed for.
I am the kind of doc that believes that you can do anything that you set your mind to. Incidentally, I witnessed a case of this over the weekend where a guy went all the way to semifinals in a tournament with a bad hip. But in your case, I would sure like to know more. Are you under chiropractic care? Are you stretching? Lots of stuff more needs to be answered before I can truly comment.
