QuestionMy hands have been tingling, along with sensitive-to-touch burning and numbing feeling. (Initially, my right hand.) I have a job typing and take on-line classes which I've had to stop because typing made them worse. They feel swollen and large; but are the same size as my left hand which is just starting to show signs of the same symptoms. My right hand is so cramped I can't move it, it feels and looks like I've been gripping a ball. I had an EMG; the docter said I have CTS and need an operation. The problem is, I am starting to get similar tingling and burning rising up my right arm and also in my right foot around my ankles; Then also, at the same time, I've had this gnawing pain in my upper left arm. The doctor ordered an MRI and said I have a herniated disk in my neck and referred me for surgery. My hips and lower back are really painful--off and on; and to make matters worse just last week I've buckled when I was walking across the street and I walk unevenly--I thought I would loose my balance? This never happened to me before. I know my mother is not a doctor but she says its diabetic neurosis. I have not been tested or diagnosed with diabetes (my mother has it but has not had my symptoms). I have had high blood pressure lately, worrying about my job. I am a 46 female. I weight about 275 am 5'6" (just lost 40lbs. on this diet.) Does CTS spread or is this something else or a combination of things? Any info would be appreciated.
AnswerHello Deirdre,
CTS is caused by overuse, adhesions or scar tissue in the muscle tissue or fascia are often the main cause. When the muscles become tight and irritated the tendons can swell or rub against the carpal tunnel/s. Deep tissue techniques to reduce and free the muscles can resolve this condition. Treatment may take weeks to months depending on how much time you can take off. You may want to see a doctor of chiropractic who specializes in soft tissue injuries also they will be able to help guide you with the low back pain or if surgery is needed.
Have a great day,
