Question
Hi there, the muscles behind my left knee are very weak and I can feel that I don't have a strong footing when I stand. I don't have any pain at all. Just that tense feeling. It just feels very weak and I can feel it when i'm sitting, lying down and standing. I'm not sure if it is a pinched nerve, vien, or something else. I had an x-ray and ultrasound on my knee last year and the doc said it was ok; however, i still have the same problem. I'm not sure what else do to..do u have any suggestions?

Answer
Hello Sonia,

Often you can have scar tissue or adhesions in the muscle tissue that compress a nerve, artery, or vein causing pain, tightness, etc.  X-Rays will not show this.  You may want to see a doctor of chiropractic who specializes in soft tissue injuries.  They will be able to perform orthopedic tests to determine how the joint is functioning and aslo be able to palpate any adhesions/scar tissue behind the knee/hamstrings.  You may find relief with soft tissue/myofascial treatment and adjustments to the knee.

Have a great day,
Dr. Brendon O'Brien D.C.
