AnswerJimmy,
If your spine has always been like this, then it may be an inherent nature of your spine. Some people are difficult to adjust. Also, it could be the chiropractor. Spinal joint manipulation is a hands-on skill, and despite training, some DC's are very good and some are not. Stiffness and rigidity to the spine that prevents release from the adjustment can also be a sign that something more serious is going on. A cervical spine disc herniation can cause referred pain and spasm in the neck and upper back (next to your shoulder blade) that will give you the allusion that you only have a tight muscle when in fact the problem is deep in your cervical spine. Your muscles will tighten and splint the spine to protect it from movement, making joint manipulation difficult. Ask your DC if she thinks you have a disc problem or other deeper neurologic problem that is causing your joints to be stiff and difficult to manipulate.
Good luck,
