Question
My step dad is 70 yrs old and has just been diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome.  He is retired and does not do a lot of physical work nor anything repetitive.  He said his thumb and first three finger tips are numb and getting worse(pinky finger is fine).  I suggested a chiropractor before surgery to see if that helps.  Do you think chiropractic could help his symptoms?

Answer
Hi Brenda,

Surgery is the last option and is rarely indicated since it can cause more problems then it solves. Scar tissue sets up in less than a year, returning the symptoms.

Find a Chiropractor that specializes or treats successfully many CTS patients. He should perform wrist mobilization, e-stim, ultrasound and air casting for best results. Expect resolution in 6 weeks or less and a significant reduction in symptoms in 3 weeks or find another doctor, something is wrong.

Good Luck!
