QuestionIt started a little while ago. It started with my big toe. If I kept it unmoved for a little while, and then i moved it down, it would pop, unusually loud, but there is no pain. Now basically, whenever I barely even move a joint it will crack or pop, but not loudly, like my toe. Is this serious? Is it normal? If it is serious, how can I prevent it from getting worse?
AnswerHi Jason,
Usually this is not very important. Joints stretch open and will often make a noise. It has to do with the rubbery cartilage on both ends of the joint, in a viscous fluid, separating causing a snap as the suction breaks.
When you are young this happens a lot and easily.
The medical term is the cavitation of a diarthrodial joint.
If it causes pain, suddenly appears following an injury or if you are still unsure I would suggest a follow up with a chiropractic doctor.
Hope this helps.
