QUESTION: My stepdaughter's mom got a German shepard mutt several months ago. I started to get very ill, only when I'm in my home. My home has been tested for mold there is none.  My stepdaughter is 10 and stays with us overnight Tuesday nights, and alternating Thursday nights and weekends.  It took months and allergy testing to find out that the dog danger was making me very sick. I can be outside golfing for 5 hours never have a problem. I get into my home and it begins with a mucous sounding cough, wheezing, my throat swells, my ears fill, my nose gets stuffy. The allergist put me on Singular for asthma(never in my life have I had asthma), xyal(allegra didn't do anything), veramyst nasal spray, zantac(I suddenly have indigestion) and blood pressure medication(brand new I now have high blood pressure) and it doesn't matter. She comes over it starts, I get sick, it takes a couple days for it to subside and she returns and I start all over. My marriage is in ruins, my health is in the toilet. I no longer have the breath for running and my workout lifestyle, I sound sick all the time. Someone mentioned that a chiropractor can help me. My husband's ex won't get rid of the new dog. If I'd have gotten this sick when I first met him and knew it was connected to his daughter, I would have stopped seeing him. I need help, he tells me she'll go to college in 7 to 8 years, its just an allergy, it's not like you have cancer. He also refuses to believe that the little she comes over is the cause.  I have pollen & outdoor mold allergies but they've never caused me to take anything more than an occassional benadryll. I really need some help, and no more drugs. Can you make a suggestion for me.

ANSWER: Donna,
The best suggestion that I could give you is to find yourself a good upper cervical chiropractor.  You see, the cause of your problem is not the dog, it is how your weakened system responds to the dog.  By correcting the interference on the brainstem, your body will be able to function at a higher level, and not only will you better be able to tolerate the dog, but you will see other areas of your health and your life improve.
Your nervous system controls and coordinates all bodily function, therefore, an interference to the nervous system causes abnormal function.

Go to this doctor and let them know from day one, that you were referred by an upper cervical doctor (you can give my name if you like).  You want to be checked on every visit, but not adjusted on every visit.  If you are finding that you are getting adjusted every time, either bring it up to the doctor or contact me for help.  As long as you are not overadjusted, you should improve and do well.
