QuestionI am a healthy 17 year old female. I have been diagnosed with a non-severe case of Scoliosis. My family has had a bad case of repetitive back problems throughout. I work full time as a graphic designer trainee and I sit at a computer most of my day. I can sit for about 10 minutes before my back starts to "sting" or better understanding : it feels though your hand has fallen asleep and tingles: my back "tingles" between my shoulders to beneath my shoulders. Also, any sudden or simple movement my back cracks. It doesn't take much at all. The only way to relief my pain if for someone to crack it physically (which doesn't always help) or to lie down and go to sleep, in which I wake up and go to work again.. It's a never ending, painful situation! I have booked a chiropractor, however, I would still like to hear about what this is.
If you have any answers for me that would be appreciated! Thank You!

AnswerCheyenne,
First, I will also assume, based on what you've said, that your scoliosis is "non-severe" and not a big issue. Also, based on the information you gave me, your symptoms sound very much like that caused by postural strain and fatigue. My initial thought is that you may need to strengthen all of your back muscles. If you face a mirror, all the muscles you don't see are the ones you would have to strengthen: neck and back extensors, scapular retractors (trap's, rhomboids), lat's, buttock/hip, hamstrings, calves. If the chiropractor has broad-based training that includes rehab and soft tissue coursework, then he/she should be able to get you feeling better in a matter of a few weeks. The exercise and strengthening ultimately is your homework, e.g. go to the gym.
I hope this was helpful.
