Question
QUESTION: (just posted but put wrong email address) ive been seeing a chiropracter since 10/07 for neck and left sided chest stings, burns etc. to my surprise it all but most went away dr said it was due to my neck.. had a car accident on thanksgiving 07 continue to see my chiropracter. for the past 2 months or so my upper middle and right side of my back is very sore and has pain. if i stretch back, bend forward or lay on my back it hurts, esp if i take a deep breath it's VERY sore. it now seems to be protruding to the front of my chest and rib area. it seems to come in spurts of days at a time. my chest area will feel tight and pressure and if i stretch back its extreme tightness and if i hunch over it feels as if its caving in and to take a deep breath it feels full and sore, even just sitting it will sometimes feel like something is inflating deep inside my chest. the dr said my ribs are out of alignment and one side is higher than the other. and the pain is coming from that. i went to the er for this once for fear that it was heart pain but all tests came back ok (ecg, chest xray, blood work) i sometimes will get anxiety over the pain bc it feels as if it would be a heart attack. its been pretty constant since monday. could his adjustments be too rough thats causing me this? when i get adjusted it does hurt esp when he touches my back in that area and i will feel it in the front of my chest when he adjusts me. also, if he adjusts my neck i will feel it in my chest as well, like pressure.   what could this be?

Answer
Hi again,  this is the response from before.  Rib adjustments are helpful, but tricky.  The site below is a good place for a local in person second opinion if you need one.  Do well.

Hi kc,

It sounds as if you have inflamed ribs along with their attachments with the spine and sternum.  In this case the doc might well need to go easier for a time and yet keep them mobile.

Talk to the doc about this directly.  I know how miserable it can be.  Been there myself.

Hope this helps.
