Question
QUESTION: Is there a connection between a retrolesthesis 5L and chronic diarreah?

ANSWER: Hi Lori,

I don't believe there is any research showing this particular connection.  Certainly the lumbosacral nerves are going to influence bowel function.

Have you consulted a Chiropractic doctor?  Direct examination may reveal the likelihood of theory.  A trial set of treatment should quickly (1-2 weeks) let you know for sure.

Hope this helps.

QUESTION: I was diagnosed with the retrolesthesis 5L probably 6 years ago by a chiropractor. Did physical therapy, and adjusted my habits and get along pretty well for the most part with that. I also have ulcerative colitis, kidney stones in both kidneys(tiny), T-2 Osteopenia, and have now had undiagnosed chronic diarrhea since last August. Have been tested for C Dif, parasites, bacteria, fructose malabsorption, bacteria overgrowth, thyroid, Celiac, had a colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, camera endoscopy, CT scan, pelvic ultrasound.  So, I am now looking on my own for anything that could be causing the chronic diarrhea. I thought at one point, someone had mentioned pinched nerves in the spine related to bowel issues, but have been unable to confirm that.  I am very willing to see the chiropractor again, what would the direct evaluation look for?  And what would treatment involve?

Answer
Hi again,

Significant restriction in range of motion and joint play in the area of concern.  Bottom-line, I would probably adjust the restrictions involved and see if it helps.  You should know if there is an influence within two weeks.

God bless.
