How many visits is enough?

Question
Hello, I've been getting regular chiropractic care for the last four months. My
chiropractor has taken me from two visits a week to once a week and just
told me today that he thinks I'm going to need another four months of visits
at one visit per week. I have fibromyalgia (which I know that chiropractic does
not cure) and the history of injuries. I feel like I've gotten some relief from the
visits but I'm reaching the point where I'm starting to feel like it's not really
doing anything significant. I'm all for regular maintenance, but my instincts
tell me the once a week is really too much. I also can't afford it. Does it sound
reasonable to you that I should need this frequent a treatment schedule? I
am 47 years old, and three years ago showed two bulging discs on an MRI
following a sprained lower back, which I had treated with physical therapy.
Also, other chiropractors that I've seen try to work me down to once a month
or least every other week. But this one gives me the line that my back will go
back to where it used to be if I don't get frequent visits

Answer
In my practice, I never put a timetable on treatment, because after 15 years, I still cannot predict how long an individual case will take. This is usually a marketing program script that a doctor follows.  Yes, I do have patients that come once a week, but I judge it more on how the patient feels, and try to keep a maintenance schedule of about once a month, or every 2 months.
Chiropractic alone does not usually cure fibromyalgia, however, nutrition, myofascial release, and low level laser can help.
