Questionwill chiropractor perform adjustments for shoulder blade and arm pain after fusion surgery?
AnswerKenneth,
Manual manipulation/adjustment of any region that has undergone surgical fusion is definitely contraindicated. However, many chiropractors use mechanical devices for performing non-thrust manipulations which can be administered above or below (but not at) the levels of surgical fusion.
Hopefully your chiropractor has determined that the spine is the source of your shoulder blade and arm pain, preferrably through a CT or MRI scan.
Soft tissue sources of your pain (such as myofascial trigger points or muscular dysfunction) should also be ruled out as the source of the problem before manipulation or mobilization above/below the levels of your surgical fusion are attempted.
I hope this answers your question.
