QuestionHi. I am seventeed and have recently realized that my right hip is slightly more protruding than my left. I cannot see it physically but I do feel it. I know that I usually sleep on my right side, can this have anything to do with it and does this sound serious?

Hello S.,
I hear what you抮e saying. This is something many patients ask their chiropractors about. It抯 impossible for me to know what exactly is causing one hip to protrude more than the other without examining you myself. However, it抯 fairly common to be somewhat asymmetrical because the different sides of the body develop differently. For example, if you抮e right-handed, your right arm might be slightly larger than your left arm. The asymmetry may come from some habit you抮e not aware of, such as the way you walk, or anything else you commonly do, day after day.
Some chiropractors may feel they can help you correct this to a degree, but if you don抰 notice improvement after a month, you may want to back off any aggressive treatment plans. Your descriptions alone do not indicate anything serious, but keep in mind, I抦 not seeing the whole picture so if you抮e concerned, don抰 hesitate visiting your doctor.
Does the sleeping cause it? It抯 possible, but it抯 difficult to tell. Since you sleep on your side, you may want to consider placing a pillow between your knees to reduce any excessive stress on your hip joints. If you would like answers tailored a bit more to your situation, you might better off consulting with a chiropractor.
I hope you find this a bit helpful.
Best of luck!
